This is sort of an homage to Morley Baer. Morely Baer was a landscape (and architectural) photographer who lived in Big Sur and made some beautiful photographs of Big Sur and the surrounding area.

One day a few years ago as I was hiking around at Point Lobos Preserve and I happened to see this old tree and made this photograph. This particular tree stood out from the other Cypress Trees so I decide to try and photograph it. It’s in an area that is roped off and you can’t get within about 25 ft of it so a longer lens is needed in order to capture it properly.

Years after I made this photograph I was looking through some of Morley Baer’s photographs on the Internet and came across this very tree! He made his photograph in 1989. You can view his version it at this link… his photo is at the bottom of the page: http://www.photographywest.com/pages/baer_photos.html
